Great Expectations

Ever hear a story about the human race
Going out to every person and every face
There once was a girl who expected the best
From her boyfriend and said she expected nothing less
Two days later he cheated on her
Those great expectations not so great yes sir
What about the man who wanted a raise
He expected some fruits from those labor days
Two hours later he was fired
Great expectations didn't take him higher
What do I expect from this world not sure quite yet
Taking it day by day is the best bet
We should expect the best from ourselves and others
But maybe a little more in our sisters and brothers
Cause despite our rise society is still flawed
The cold nature in some people hasn't thawed
So you continue to do the best that you can
To be the best woman to be the best man
One last story I wanted to tell
About the man who was poised to yell
Because he needed to find a better way
To say the words he needed to say
She hushed him before he could say a word
She calmed him before this that or the third
And said the words I love you very much
With that he was healed by her touch
This man didn't have many expectations
He didn't succeed in many situations
But he had this woman who saved his life
This woman would turn out to be his wife
What I expect can't say I'm to sure
But I try to expect what's best and what's pure
The moral of the story you ask me
Is expected the unexpected and more be free
